The Chill Art Projects Gallery proudly to present ‘Portal’ a solo exhibition by Nigerian Artist Kingsley Obasi, on display until 21st August 2022. Portal takes us on a journey of time- the past, future and present. Obasi’s unique imaginative technique has the ability to capture both tradition and contemporary culture. His portraits cleverly fuse cartoon imagery and old masters, such as Rembrandt. Obasi also pays tribute to Picasso through abstraction and fragmenting features of the face with unusually large eyes and noses. Obasi’s unique imaginative language pays tribute to a vast array of art, historical traditions and genres, capturing grotesque Bacon-like figures whilst at the same time mimicking the contemporary cartoon imagery of Nara and paying homage to old masters’ portraiture in his own unique contemporary style.
