African Arty announced a collaboration with the Moroccan artist Amina Azreg, starting with a presentation of her works during 1-54 Marrakech at Dar Moulay Ali (Maison de France), 8-12 February 2023.
Amina Azreg creates a poetry of the gaze, imbued with mystery and memories, which shake up our feelings. The canvas is a journey toward past times, still present, perhaps. Torn between different emotions, between the real and the imaginary, Casablanca is represented more widely in the contemporary world and its history. Confined to the inner worlds, the city’s symbols emerge in the paradox between what has been and what remains. Realism then merges into the strange and the disappearing. The artist accentuates certain features to erase others, painting becoming the means of underlining and bringing back buried sensations. The dramatization of the settings becomes for her a means to elaborate a universe inscribed in timelessness.
