The exhibition ‘Globalisto. Fragments of Community’ showcases a diverse group of visual artists who explore the complexities of identity, time, memory, and cultural production through various mediums such as painting, video, photography, and textiles. Inspired by African knowledge systems, post-apartheid transitionalism, and the principles of respect, the exhibition aims to create a borderless world where foreignness is embraced. It invites viewers to consider radical hospitality, care, and repair and challenges dominant narratives and power dynamics. Each artwork represents a unique perspective and resistance against power, inviting thoughtful reflection and dissent.
The curator of this exhibition, Ntshepe Tsekere Bopape aka. Mo Laudi is a multidisciplinary artist, composer, DJ, and producer, known for his influential work in Afro-Electronic music. He explores themes of race, post-apartheid, post-colonialism, mobility, and erasure through experimental sound compositions. Additionally, he employs various artistic mediums such as painting, collage, sculpture, installations, and video to deconstruct black futurity, African knowledge systems, and spirituality, creating new cultural perspectives.
31 PROJECT is dedicated to promoting African contemporary art scenes through multidisciplinary exhibitions of artists originating from the continent and its diasporas.
