AFIKARIS Gallery presents a solo exhibition ‘Dans le bruit de la ville’, by Salifou Lindou, on display until June 20.
Salifou Lindou, born in 1965, a self-taught artist from Foumban (Cameroon) known for his installations, sculptures, and mixed collages. He co-founded the Kapsiki Circle to promote the arts in Douala, where he lives and works. Lindou now primarily works with pastels on paper, capturing the complexity of human existence through energetic and spontaneous lines.
Lindou revisits his early artistic approach in ‘Dans le bruit de la ville’ by creating compositions using collected objects. Portraits of inhabitants and intense conversations depict social issues and everyday scenes. Lindou explores political manipulation and corruption, highlighting the victims and the decay of the city. Birds symbolize hope for a better future. Through the exploration of materials and the blending of various techniques and mediums, Lindou effectively occupies the exhibition space, showcasing the diverse nature of his art while also reflecting the evolving architectural landscape of urban environments.
AFIKARIS Gallery promotes dialogue and challenges societal ideals. The gallery gives voice to artists on topical issues and reflects on African contemporary art, including emerging talents.
