Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is pleased to present ‘Memory Devices’, a special project by artist Cheikh Ndiaye at the project space in Abidjan, on display until September 2nd.
Born in Dakar, Senegal in 1970, Cheikh Ndiaye splits his time between Dakar and Prague. A graduate of the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in both Dakar and Lyon, Ndiaye has a unique interest in architecture and urbanism. Through a combination of paintings, photographs, films, and installations, he transforms the ordinary and informal into extraordinary art.
Cheikh Ndiaye, known for using West African cinemas as conduits for social and historical narratives, now broadens his artistic perspective. From cinemas, he transitions to churches, from exterior scenes to interiors, and from the present he journeys to images of the past. Ndiaye’s enjoyment in highlighting architectural details and iconic film images punctuates his continuous documentation of the intricate and emotional West African landscape in his space-time exploration.
Galerie Cécile Fakhoury promotes contemporary African and Diaspora art through curated exhibitions, international art fairs, and partnerships. It showcases artists influenced by cultural identities, crafting unique language that transcends geographical boundaries. These artists encourage reassessment of world views and connections.
