LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery is pleased to present the fifth edition of ‘Découvertes’, its summer exhibition showcasing the year’s most promising artistic encounters, on display until August 26th. Prosper Aluu, Stéphane Carrer, Christophe Sawadogo, Dramane Toloba and Khéraba Traoré are the artists taking part this year.

Prosper Aluu, born in 1999, a Nigerian visual artist, uses Nigerian newspaper cuttings to tell past stories while preserving current narratives. His “Abfillage” style features elongation, exaggeration, Afro hairstyles, and golden crowns, celebrating and exploring Aluu’s African identity.

Stéphane Carrer, born in 1961, a self-taught artist from France, explores reality through his watercolours, capturing everyday objects with a mystical aura. His depictions of offbeat characters evoke both the darker side of existence and a glimmer of hope and light.

Christophe Sawadogo, born in 1972 in Burkina Faso, focuses on painting, creating universes with characters floating, told, or dreamed. Sawadogo honors women’s courage and endurance through details like loincloths and hairstyles, creating serene atmospheres with vibrant colors.

Dramane Toloba, born in 1990 in Mali, is an ecological artist who values object recovery and reuse. He uses materials like fabrics, paint, paper, and paper clips in his works, promoting recycling and promoting light in individuals. His colorful, dreamlike creations challenge pessimism and support his causes.

Khéraba Traoré, born in 1987 in Senegal, is an artist whose paintings are spontaneous, liberating, and uninhibited, using simple lines and bright colors. His work condemns violence against children, their poetry, playfulness, and the challenges they face.

The showcase illuminates the mutual interests that unite the artists, including children’s advocacy, the potency of language, women’s societal roles, and the interplay of dreams with reality. Each of the five creators bravely interprets their perception of the world, unafraid of engaging with pressing societal topics. ‘Découvertes #5’ courageously and calmly addresses these subjects through vivid, celebratory hues, surprising material combinations, and amalgams of illustration and script. The exhibition encourages spectators to delve into the wealth and variety of modern West African art.
