AFIKARIS Gallery presents ‘Ce que nous donne la terre (What the Earth Gives Us)’, a group show of various artists, curated by Michaëla Hadji-Minaglou, on display until September 23rd.

The exhibition ‘Ce que nous donne la terre (What the Earth Gives Us)’ urges us to reflect on our environment’s transformations and resource exhaustion, urging us to view nature as a sanctuary. The artists depict profound relationships between humans and the earth, proposing novel communal living ways. This raises the urge to reconsider our ties with the planet, moving away from the Anthropocene era of human dominance towards a global equilibrium where all lifeforms coexist in balance.

Artists Ousmane Niang, Cristiano Mangovo, and Hervé Yamguen create hybrids of humans and plants, protecting the environment. Their work emphasizes reconnecting with nature and a sustainable future, fostering resistance to disturbances and adapting to disturbances.

Ozioma Onuzulike, Salifou Lindou, Temandrota, and Eva Obodo weave natural elements into their artwork. Their pieces put both the beauty and fragility of nature on display, challenging our environmental relationships.

Saïdou Dicko and Jean David Nkot use organic cotton from Burkina Faso, combining traditional techniques with modern reuse concerns. Dicko’s work explores the market economy, North/South relations, and resource exploitation, while Nkot delves into the exploitative history of cotton, which sparked the industrial revolution and capitalism.

Nasreddine Bennacer, Omar Mahfoudi, and Moustapha Baidi Oumarou explore the concept of a mystical exile and unity with nature in their works. Hyacinthe Ouattara and Beya Gille Gacha emphasize the spiritual bond between humans and the earth, emphasizing ecological awareness, ecosystem preservation, and relinquishment of dominance.

AFIKARIS Gallery promotes dialogue and challenges societal ideals. The gallery gives voice to artists on topical issues and reflects on African contemporary art, including emerging talents.
