193 Gallery presents ‘No Meio’, a solo show by Francisco Vidal, on display until November 18th.
Francisco Vidal, a Portuguese artist, is known for his large-scale paintings, drawings, and installations, influenced by Cubism, African textiles, 80s hip-hop culture, and contemporary graffiti. Born in Portugal, he sees himself connected to the African diaspora and explores post-colonial personality, transcultural identities, and agricultural work. Vidal founded e-studio Luanda in 2012, offering art education and exhibitions. His work has been featured in various festivals and collections, including the EDP Foundation, PLMJ Foundation, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and Scheryn Art Collection.
Francisco Vidal’s solo exhibition ‘No Meio’ showcases his work on transcultural identities. Vidal explores postcolonial identity and pays homage to agricultural labor, particularly the machete, symbolizing the African liberation movement. His work draws inspiration from cubist artistry, African textile designs, hip-hop culture, graffiti, and modern street art.
‘No Meio’ introduces Vidal’s narrative, exploring political dissent and social revolution through a harmonious blend of technique and expression.
