Galerie Cécile Fakhoury presents ‘Can You Feel The Space that Space Occupies’, by Binta Diaw, Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien, and Roméo Mivekannin, on display until November 4th.

The exhibit explores the ontological aspect of being, focusing on the relationship between physical, social, and spiritual aspects. The artists explore the body as a battleground for life’s tribulations, resilience, authority, and action, while also exploring the synergy between feminine cycles, nature, and art.

Binta Diaw’s Corporeal Landscapes emphasize the body as a realm of resilience, authority, and action, while Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien’s artworks and installations meld textile artistry, sculpture, and sketching, incorporating industrial materials and natural elements. Drawing from the cultural heritages of the matriarchal Akan societies of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, she interweaves elements from these disparate realms, examining their symbols, spaces, expressions of femininity, and ties to craft traditions within an industrial society.

Roméo Mivekannin’s abstract pieces, influenced by the Support/Surface movement, cave art, voodoo traditions, and Russian abstractionism, entwine myriad references enriched by their juxtaposition, shaping new motifs for contemplation and inviting viewers to delve into the artworks akin to universally reverberating mandalas.

The exhibit invites a meditative engagement and a deeper understanding of the ontological aspect of being.
