Uthman Wahaab presents his works at ART X Lagos, on display from 2 to 5 November.
Uthman Wahaab, born in 1983 in Nigeria, is a versatile artist with a broad skill set. He studied Fine Art at the School of Art, Design, and Printing, affiliated with Yada College of Technology in Lagos.
Wahaab’s artistic practice is characterized by his interest in societal phenomena and his creations span various disciplines, including drawing, painting, graphic design, film, photography, sculpture, and installation art. He is dedicated to forging a novel visual language and challenging traditional modes of representation to capture and comment on contemporary history.
The artist is currently exploring themes related to identity, aesthetics, sexuality, and the influence of culture on technological advancement and societal transformations within Africa. He emphasizes the need for introspection into historical patterns and lessons from the past to navigate the complexities of a globalized world.
Wahaab’s artwork has garnered international praise and has been exhibited across Africa and Europe.
ART X Lagos, founded in 2016, by Tokini Peterside-Schwebig, is a unique cultural event in West Africa, offering dynamic art experiences beyond traditional fairs.
