THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE presents ‘Beyond Boundaries’, a group exhibition, on display until November 21st.
The exhibition showcases the works of Cristiano Mangovo, Gonçalo Mabunda, Luís Damião, Nelo Teixeira, Rómulo Santa Rita, Uólofe Griot, and Samuel Nnorom, inviting the audience to explore the vibrant and transformative realm of contemporary African Art. The collection highlights the ongoing evolution and rich diversity of this art form, serving as a mirror to the global society’s perpetual metamorphosis in which it resides.
Through an insightful and thorough curatorial narrative, the exhibition critically examines established concepts of “borders.” This inquiry spans various dimensions, from the geopolitical demarcation in Africa to the layered intricacies and potential dissolution within the artistic disciplines of sculpture, painting, and drawing, particularly those with three-dimensional aspects.
‘Beyond Boundaries’ stands as a manifesto that celebrates diversity and the unbridled human spirit. These seven artists bring to life their unique visions, creating tangible and timeless expressions that encapsulate a celebration of diversity, while simultaneously reflecting a multifaceted social landscape in constant flux.
THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE is a global contemporary art gallery based in Luanda and Lisbon, Portugal, focusing on African stories and diaspora.
