October Gallery presents ‘TimeSpace’, a solo exhibition of works by El Anatsui, a renowned contemporary artist with over fifty years of experience, on display until January 13th, 2024.

El Anatsui, a Ghanaian artist, has made significant contributions to contemporary art through his teaching and sculpting career. His installations, crafted from thousands of aluminum bottle tops, have been showcased in major global museums. Anatsui’s work has been recognized with awards and exhibitions, including the Charles Wollaston Award for his work, ‘TSIATSIA – searching for connection’. He has also been honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement and an Honorary Doctorate from Harvard University.

‘TimeSpace’ showcases the artistry of El Anatsui. The artist’s sculptures, incorporating various media and unconventional materials, explore various themes and topics. His work has evolved from clay and tropical hardwoods to repurposing found objects, such as bottle-tops, iron graters, and milk-tin lids. The exhibition will feature new and earlier pieces, providing insight into El Anatsui’s evolution, including wooden wall reliefs, a hybrid between sculpture and painting, and larger free-standing sculptures, crafted from abandoned wooden mortars or tree trunks. ‘TimeSpace’ will also feature a series of 13 prints, inspired by the lunar eclipse, inspired by the thirteen moon cycles each year.

October Gallery, established in 1979, is a charitable trust that supports artists, musicians, writers, and students through art sales, venue rentals, grants, and comprehensive educational programs.
