The architect in focus for the month of November is Christian Benimana (Rwanda, 1983)
Christian Benimana, a renowned architect, has created the African Design Centre to foster a fairer and sustainable future in Africa. Benimana, Senior Principal and Co-Executive Director at MASS Design Group, has a portfolio of notable projects including the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture, the Ellen DeGeneres Campus at the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, and the African Leadership University.
He has also been a curator for the 18th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia in 2023 and was named a 2017 Quartz Africa Innovator. Benimana’s insights on African architectural innovation have been a topic of interest at the 2017 TED Global conference. He has also served as a faculty member at the University of Rwanda’s School of Architecture, College of Science and Technology.
Benimana has also contributed to literature, including “An African Theory of Architecture” for The Architectural Guide to Sub-Saharan Africa and “Re-Thinking the Future of African Cities” for The African Perspective Magazine. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Tongji University’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
