Foreign Agent presents ‘Clear Blue’, Nicolas Lambelet Coleman’s debut solo exhibition, in Switzerland, on display until January 20th, 2024.
Nicolas Lambelet Coleman, a New York-based painter, specializes in self-portraiture and challenges identity through self-creation. His work, influenced by daily life and Black history, has been exhibited at various exhibitions, highlighting the complexity of identity, community, and human existence.
‘Clear Blue’ features energetic, textured, and vividly hued watercolours, capturing the quintessential summer pleasures of swimming, diving, lounging, and reading beside pools, lakes, or ocean fronts.
The series serves as an intimate chronicle of both family and self-portraits, rendered with a sensitive and radiant touch. The collection exudes a nostalgic yet modern elegance, echoing the essence of Coleman’s Marrakech works. The work is geographically and emotionally tied to the banks of Lac Léman in Ouchy, Lausanne, highlighting the region that traces back to his mother’s roots.
