Galerie Chauvy presents ‘Ecuador’, a group exhibition by Seyni Awa Camara, Soly Cissé, and Adewumi Oyeyemi, on display until January 26th.
In 1985, artist Olivier Rizzo, known as Speedy Graphito, created a work featuring his rabbit-headed character, highlighting the diversity of equatorial regions. This theme was further explored by artists Seyni Awa Camara, Soly Cissé, and Adewumi Oyeyemi. Rizzo’s “Ecuador” poster, inspired by ancient Mayan texts, symbolizes the regions between the tropics and Arctic circles.
Soly Cissé’s “Ecosystems” series immerses viewers in a nature-infused environment, using primary colors to create harmony and societal balance. Seyni Awa Camara, born in 1945, crafts mystical sculptures using a rudimentary technique and locally sourced clay, reflecting a life in harmony with nature. Adewumi Oyeyemi’s art, created in response to the historic floods of 2022, reflects the lush forests and waterfalls of his native Ekiti highlands in Nigeria. His 2023 works address ecological, social, and political issues, criticizing corruption and the apathy of politicians. This collective narrative of art from diverse backgrounds demonstrates a shared concern for environmental sustainability and the unique ways artists express this through their work.
Galerie Chauvy, located in Paris since 1997, has showcased international artistic movements, focusing on new artists from diverse regions, promoting transversalities between disciplines, and collaborating with institutions.
