Ajarb Bernard Ategwa, born in 1988 in Kumba, Cameroon, is a renowned artist whose work has gained international recognition. Born in Douala, he draws inspiration from the city’s diverse cultures. His art is featured in prominent collections like the Perez Art Museum Miami and the Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

‘Nyang Nyang’ series shifts from impersonal street scenes to intimate portrayals of family and friends, inspired by Cameroonian ‘Caba’ textiles. The watercolor-based paintings reveal the subjects and offer a personal glimpse into Ategwa’s life. The fusion of traditional and contemporary styles, blending post-independence African black-and-white studio photography with modern social media, features expressive backgrounds. The large format works echo Douala’s cityscapes and public spaces, capturing snapshots of everyday life through vivid colors and graphic styles.

Jack Bell Gallery, established in London in 2010, showcases, promotes, and supports contemporary artists globally. Its annual program features twelve exhibitions, along with participation in art fairs across London, New York, Singapore, and Taipei.
