Thierry Goldberg Gallery presents ‘What Burns Beneath’, the debut solo exhibition by Alexander Brewington, on display until March 16th.
Alexander Brewington, born in 1996 in Maryland, is a renowned artist based in Ridgewood, New York. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual art from St. Johns University. His work has been featured in publications like Hyperallergic and Canvas Rebel Magazine.
The exhibition explores the journey of maturing into early adulthood in New York City, addressing the struggles faced by newcomers, such as isolation and anonymity. Brewington’s paintings reflect the struggle for self-discovery and the quest for answers, stability, and a place in the world. His use of color and perspective allows him to bring unique stories to life. “Point of Ignition” captures a moment of solitude under a train platform, while “Flambé” showcases two men enjoying a drink together on a sidewalk. Brewington’s art acknowledges the complexities of young adulthood and the bravery required to navigate this transformative phase in New York. He believes that overcoming challenges ignites inner strength, and each piece serves as a tribute to the resilience and determination needed to forge one’s identity and path in life.
