L’Atelier 21 in Casablanca presents ‘Réécrire le monde’, by Moustapha Baidi Oumarou, on display until March 30th.

Born in 1997 in Maroua, Cameroon, Moustapha Oumarou has gained international recognition, with his art featured in solo and group exhibitions worldwide and included in esteemed collections such as the Blachère Foundation in France, the Chris Moser Collection in Austria, and the Gandur Foundation in Switzerland. Currently, Oumarou continues to live and create art in Maroua, where his artistic journey began.

Oumarou’s work, characterized by an optimistic and humanistic perspective, pays homage to the tradition of full-length photographic portraits by celebrated photographers like Malick Sidibé, Seydou Keïta, and Michel Kameni. His use of color, likened to vibrant hues found in a sapology handbook, is a key feature of his work. Oumarou’s paintings often feature lush, untamed vegetation backgrounds, symbolizing the joy of living and the intertwining of nature and humanity.

L’Atelier 21 art gallery, established in 2008, is a prominent Moroccan visual arts venue, showcasing multidisciplinary art forms by Moroccan and diaspora artists. It was the first Moroccan gallery to present its artists at international fairs in the early 2010s.
