The 60th International Art Exhibition of the 2024 La Biennale di Venezia, entitled “Stranieri Ovunque: Foreigners Everywhere”, will be held from tomorrow to November 24, in Venice.

Curated by Adriano Pedrosa, the exhibition does not only center on the goal of environmental preservation but also highlights the commitment to environmentally friendly materials and energy-neutral practices.

“Stranieri Ovunque: Foreigners Everywhere” is distinguished by its two main sections:

Nucleo Contemporaneo: This section showcases the works of a new generation of artists who transcend traditional norms and chronologies tied to specific places and times. It highlights the diversity of experimental perspectives, including those from indigenous and self-taught artists. The Nucleo Contemporaneo aims to challenge and expand the boundaries of contemporary art through innovative expressions and techniques.

Nucleo Storico: Offering a contextual backdrop to the Nucleo Contemporaneo, the Nucleo Storico section connects the innovative work of new artists to the rich legacy of modern and contemporary art. This section is crucial for understanding how current artistic practices are an extension of, and dialogue with, past and present movements within the art world.

The exposition is made up of 88 National Participants, with four newcomers, and 30 collateral events. This dimension includes Special Projects, Lifetime Achievement Awards, educational initiatives, as well as an initiative called Biennale College Arte to support emerging artists.

A hallmark of the Venice Biennale, the national and international pavilions from different countries offer a unique platform for cultural exchange and reflection on the role of art in shaping our culture and society. Each pavilion, representing its respective country, curates its own exhibit, contributing to the Biennale’s mission of fostering global cross-cultural exchange and highlighting the diversity of artistic expression worldwide.

Four countries are present for the first time at the Art Biennale: The Republic of Benin, Ethiopia, and the United Republic of Tanzania from Africa, alongside the Democratic Republic of East Timor from Southeast Asia. Senegal is also participating for the first time with its own pavilion. Additionally, Egypt, the Republic of Cameroon, and South Africa are other African countries participating in La Biennale di Venezia.

La Biennale di Venezia’s mission is to support cross-cultural exchange globally and to emphasize the role of art in defining our culture and our society.
