EXPOSED Torino Foto Festival, under the theme “New Landscapes,” presents ‘As if the world had no West’, a film by Monica de Miranda, on display until June 2nd.
Mónica de Miranda is a renowned Portuguese visual artist, filmmaker, and researcher, known for her interdisciplinary approach that explores politics, gender, memory, space, and history. She founded Hangar in 2014, an art and research center in Lisbon, Portugal.
The film ‘As if the world had no West’ explores the unique landscapes of Angola and challenges Western perceptions of memory, history, and territory. Based on anthropologist Augusto Zita’s Namibia desert research, the film reinterprets land as a site of communal nurture and emancipation, offering alternative, non-Western ways of visualizing landscapes and challenging Western perceptions of memory, history, and territory.
Exposed is an annual photography festival in Turin, Italy, launching annually in May. Supported by the City of Turin, the Piedmont Region, and various organizations, it features temporary exhibitions, a fair, educational initiatives, artistic commissions, and off-site events. The festival aims to explore photography’s evolving nature, explore diverse approaches, and push boundaries. Exposed is a leader in the global photography scene, showcasing traditional and modern photography, and promoting collaboration and community.
