Loft Art Gallery presents two solo shows in its Marrakech space, ‘Material Muses’ by Kwaku Yaro and ‘Through Earth, Sea and Space’ by Amina Rezki, on display from May 11th until June 11th.
Emmanuel Kwaku Yaro, a Ghanaian contemporary artist, has over six years of experience and collaborated with prestigious organizations like the Alliance Française d’Accra. His solo exhibition at the African Regent Hotel and group exhibitions at Efie Gallery and Phillips Auction House showcase his meticulous attention to detail.
Yaro’s work explores individuality within a communal context, focusing on the cultural fabric of his coastal community of Labadi. His work challenges the tension between personal uniqueness and societal expectations, highlighting the distinct narratives of those who share his upbringing yet possess their own distinct identities.
Amina Rezki, a Moroccan painter and illustrator, studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts before taking a 15-year break to raise her children. Between 2003 and 2009, she resumed her artistic training at the Académie d’Arts d’Uccle in Brussels, where she gained recognition from Belgian artist Arié Mandelbaum.
Rezki’s ‘Through Earth, Sea and Space’ portrays her limitless imagination through portraits that navigate the thematic territories of earth, sea, and space, capturing her subjects in intriguing environments and poses.
Both exhibitions highlight the unique narratives of those who share their upbringing yet possess distinct identities.
Loft Art Gallery, founded in 2009 by Myriem and Yasmine Berrada Sounni, displays modern African art in Casablanca’s Golden Triangle. Focusing on local contemporary artists, the gallery promotes intercultural dialogue through art. It participates in international art fairs and collaborates with museums worldwide, showcasing high-quality exhibitions and media attention.
