The architect in focus for the month of June is Paula Nascimento (Luanda, Angola, 1981)

Paula Nascimento works as an independent curator and architect in Luanda. She was a co-founder of Beyond Entropy Africa, a research company that worked on geopolitical, visual arts, and architecture projects between 2010 and 2016.

Her artistic and curatorial work for the highly acclaimed Angola Pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennale, “Luanda Encyclopedic City,” is particularly noteworthy. Paula has overseen multidisciplinary initiatives as an independent curator that explore topics related to post-colonial urban settings and modern interpretations of historical concerns. Her curatorial resume features shows in Angola, South Africa, Portugal, and Italy. She has also participated in a number of prestigious events, including the VI Lubumbashi Biennial, Experimenta Design, Triennale di Milano, and Bamako Biennial.

Paula has been the curator of the African Galleries at ARCO Lisboa since 2019. She is currently President of the Artistic Committee of the Nesr Art Foundation, a member of the Advisory Board of the Hangar Centre for Artistic Research, associate curator of the 7th Lubumbashi Biennial, and recipient of the 2022 Okwui Enwezor Fellowship Research Grant from Independent Curators International.
