In this installment of our series, we spotlight another key institution, the Arts Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA), dedicated to the interaction and collaboration of professionals in the field of African art. As a driving force in the scholarly and cultural appreciation of African art, ACASA’s mission is to enhance understanding of African material and expressive culture and to foster collaborations with artists and scholars from Africa and the Diaspora.

ACASA is sponsored by the African Studies Association (ASA) and affiliated with the College Art Association (CAA), sponsoring panels at the annual conference. The organization holds its annual business meeting and conducts additional meetings at the CAA conference.

ACASA hosts the Triennial Symposium on African Art, presenting groundbreaking research on African art. It also publishes a newsletter and supports projects to promote African art scholarship, including distributing books to museums and libraries, creating a college textbook, and providing travel grants for African scholars and American graduate students.
