Retro Africa Gallery presents ‘The Power of Choice: Love is the Answer,’ a solo exhibition by French-Burkinabe artist Henri Abraham Univers, on display until September 9th, in Abuja, Nigeria.

Henri Abraham Univers, born in Paris, initially pursued cinema studies at the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français. However, he rediscovered his passion for drawing and painting, leading him to settle in London in 2010. Henri’s art is renowned for its cosmological motifs and recurring elements, such as white star speckles on dark backgrounds, which convey themes of love and human unity.

‘The Power of Choice: Love is the Answer’ features ten new paintings, a site-specific installation, and a soundscape, showcasing Univers’ distinctive style. The gallery transforms into a serene, sacred space, surrounded by twinkling stars and a serene atmosphere filled with soft jazz. Univers’ work celebrates multiculturalism and human dignity, often featuring phrases like “Time is Money” and “1+1=1” symbolizing universal unity. His evolving color palette, including vibrant florals and deep ocean blues, emphasizes the transformative power of love. The exhibition encourages viewers to align with divine love and reject darkness, inviting them on a contemplative journey. Univers shares that love is part of the divine, and when we love, we are part of God, a fluid force capable of confronting hatred with compassion.

Retro Africa, established in 2015, is a prominent contemporary art gallery in Abuja, Nigeria, known for its international programs, exhibitions, and collaborative projects. It supports artists through public programs, workshops, and residencies, promoting art appreciation and education.
