Art and sports often intersect in contemporary society. Frac Sud – Cité de l’art contemporain has commissioned curator Jean Marc Huitorel to create an exhibition titled ‘Des exploits, des chefs-d’oeuvre.’ The exhibition, spanning three cultural institutions in the Southern Region and Marseille, features over 350 works from nearly 100 French and international artists. It also aims to engage with the essence and manifestations of sporting events through symbolic objects, offering a unique perspective for reflection and enjoyment.

As Marseille prepares to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the dialogue between art and sports becomes particularly relevant. Supported by the Région Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the French Ministry of Culture, and the City of Marseille, the exhibition has earned the Paris 2024 label and stands as a cornerstone project within the Cultural Olympiad in France.

Among the featured artists is Mariam Abouzid Souali, born in 1989 in Targuist, Morocco. Her art, evoking childhood memories through play, showcases childlike figures in landscapes with altered architecture, typically devoid of children. Souali juxtaposes rural settings with aspects of liberal globalization, highlighting the connections between childhood and the world’s developmental pace, inequalities, and the impacts of industrial advancement. Her work encourages viewers to reflect on global inequalities and the consequences of industrialization.

Galerie Cécile Fakhoury promotes contemporary African and Diaspora art through curated exhibitions, international fairs, and partnerships, encouraging reassessment of world views and connections.

The [mac] musée d’art contemporain de Marseille is a modern and contemporary art museum with a collection of around a thousand items, including works from New Realists, Figuration Narrative, Arte Povera, American conceptual art, Fluxus, and Supports Surfaces. The museum also showcases installation, digital, and video art, and features a garden with sculptures.
