Cheikh Ndiaye, born in 1970 in Dakar, Senegal, is an Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts graduate and has a keen interest in architecture and urbanism. His artistic expressions include paintings, photographs, films, and installations, offering unique perspectives on everyday life. Ndiaye has held solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the 13th Havana Biennale in Cuba, Sanguine. Luc Tuymans on Baroque at the Prada Foundation in Milan, and Brises-Soleils des Indépendances at the 13th Dakar Biennale in Senegal. He has also been active in academic circles, receiving the Naturalis Art Temporary Prize in Berlin (2012) and the Linossier Prize in France (2008).

The 2024 Busan Biennale, under the theme “Seeing in the Dark,” explores the human condition within contemporary “darkness.” It seeks to challenge conventional thinking and address today’s complex realities, such as systemic changes and surveillance, within existing social structures. The exhibition reinterprets “darkness” and “vision” broadly, encouraging a deeper exploration of sensory perception and enlightenment beyond mere physicality.

The Busan Biennale, inaugurated in 1998, has evolved into a premier contemporary art event in Asia. Its objectives include highlighting contemporary artistic trends, facilitating cultural exchanges, and nurturing discourse among artists, curators, and the public.
