Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is delighted to present Goumbé, the first solo exhibition by artist Carl-Edouard Keïta in Abidjan, running from February 13 to April 12, 2025.

Cultural associations founded by migrants from the interior regions and neighboring areas of Côte d’Ivoire during the post-independence years, the goumbés were once a vibrant presence in Abidjan’s popular neighborhoods. Today, these associations have nearly disappeared, leaving behind primarily the artistic practices they inspired, which are still carried on within the Malinké community in northern Côte d’Ivoire.

Drawing from the creative energy of this movement, Carl-Edouard Keïta explores in this exhibition the social, cultural, and spiritual dynamics of a pivotal period in the construction of a post-colonial national identity.
