Filafriques is a Black woman-owned gallery dedicated to promoting contemporary African art in Switzerland. Founded in response to the evolving discourse on cultural identity in an increasingly cosmopolitan world, the gallery was born out of an urgent need to amplify African artistic voices on the global stage.
Since the COVID-19 era, Filafriques has redefined how contemporary African art is experienced, curating exhibitions in non-traditional venues such as airport first-class lounges and international organization headquarters, making art an integral part of everyday life. In 2024, the gallery opened its permanent space in Geneva, further solidifying its presence in the art world.
Filafriques represents a diverse roster of artists from across Africa, each of whom reclaims cultural symbols to craft distinctive narratives. Among them are Obou Gbais, who explores the significance of masks, Joseph Eze, whose work incorporates thread and hair, and Reggie Khumalo, who integrates fabric into his artistic practice.
2024 also marked a significant expansion with a partnership with Amani Gallery in Abidjan, where Filafriques now curates two major exhibitions annually in the vibrant Ivorian capital, deepening its connections to the African art scene.
