ART X Lagos is the premier international art fair in West Africa, and a dynamic platform created to celebrate and champion contemporary culture from Africa and its diaspora. Founded by Tokini Peterside-Schwebig in 2016, the fair has since its launch become a global destination, drawing artists and galleries from over 70 countries and attracting participants from 170 nations worldwide, while expanding the boundaries of what an art fair can be.
Through its bold, multidisciplinary programming – spanning music, film, design, literature and art – ART X Lagos has become a cornerstone of the African art sector, and a cultural catalyst committed to redefining the African narrative. In addition to groundbreaking exhibitions featuring leading artists and galleries, the fair features ART X Live!, its innovative music platform; ART X Cinema, a showcase dedicated to artistically-minded independent African filmmaking; and ART X Talks, which features exceptional African and diasporic talent, and has included keynote speakers such as El Anatsui, Njideka Akunyili-Crosby, Yinka Shonibare CBE, Wangechi Mutu, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Ibrahim Mahama and more.
ART X Lagos continues to invest in the next generation and shape the future of African art and its global narrative, through initiatives such as the ART X Prize and The Development Forum, which support early-career artists and curators.
In 2016, ART X Lagos extended an open invitation to cultural curators across Lagos to programme around the fair, sparking the art week and season in Nigeria – an annual highlight of the country’s art scene.
Today, ART X Lagos is a vital force; driving a bold reimagining of how the world sees, hears and experiences the African continent.
