MOVART returns with two compelling solo exhibitions by Fidel Évora and Jules BE KUTI. These exhibitions mark a new chapter for MOVART, offering a celebration of artistic creativity, dialogue, and expression through two distinctive voices.

For the first time in Portugal, Jules BE KUTI presents “Fragment from an Invisible Masculinity”, with a series titled ‘Shades of Black: Explorations of Masculinity’. These works explore the complexity of Black masculine identity, embracing strength, resilience, tenderness, and vulnerability. Through rich and nuanced tones, Be Kuti invites reflection on the diversity of Black experiences, often absent from mainstream narratives.

At the same time, Fidel Évora unveils “Coisas do Coração e Não Coisas”, a new body of work that reimagines cinema, archives, and digital imagery through screen printing and painting, transforming memory into reflection and movement. Évora describes his practice as reflecting “the way a landscapist portrays his surrounding environment,” a space that is both digital and physical, reconfigured into a layered cosmology where image, sound, and memory interlace. Évora has been part of MOVART’s journey since 2021, and his new work continues to explore the intersections of personal and collective histories.

The exhibitions coincide with the opening of Estrela 74, a new cultural space in Lisbon. Visitors are invited to engage with the exhibitions and explore works from artists who have been part of MOVART’s decade-long journey, celebrating identity, memory, transformation, and the ongoing dialogue between contemporary art and society.
