UNDERDOGS Gallery presents “Portal do Retorno” (Portal of Return) by Dino D’Santiago

Portal do Retorno (Portal of Return) is Dino D’Santiago’s first solo exhibition. Conceived as a visual ceremony of spiritual reparation, it draws on the memory of the transatlantic slave trade and the millions of African lives that were interrupted, erased, and denied ritual, mourning, and historical recognition.

Through drawings created using India ink on coloured paper and card, Dino D’Santiago proposes a symbolic inversion of the so-called “Doors of No Return” – not as a revisiting of pain, but as an affirmation of dignity, presence, and memory. The continuous, unbroken line takes on a political stance, refusing the silence imposed by historical violence, while colour asserts itself as a territory of power, plurality, and identity.
