Mouhcine Rahaoui (1990, JERADA, Morroco) graduated from the Tetouan School of Fine Arts in 2017. His art delves into the history and experiences of miners in the Oriental region, especially in his hometown of Jerada. His work offers an immersive exploration of his memories and his connection to the harsh reality of the town. Rahaoui’s art recounts the unsafe, illegal coal extractions that sustain life while also consuming it, prompting him to question why working in Jerada often results in death instead of life.
Rahaoui’s work has been featured in two solo exhibitions: at the Comptoir des Mines Gallery in Marrakech in 2022 and at AFIKARIS Gallery in 2024. His work has also been presented at Art Paris, 1-54 London and Marrakech, and Art Genève.
We would like to express our gratitude to Mouhcine Rahaoui for generously gifting us his time during the event, as well as AFIKARIS for helping us coordinate the interview.
