The MOVART Artist Residency Social Project intends to be a platform that promotes the empowerment of artists in African countries, that promotes and encourages cultural production made by artists and that contributes to the creation of new synergies and cooperation between Portuguese-speaking countries, and to the strengthening of cultural relations between Portuguese-speaking countries.
Who can participate?
Artists and Curators in contemporary African art (visual arts), over the age of 18. Candidates must be nationals from the African continent and its diaspora. Up to 3 (three) candidates will be selected.
What activities will be developed?
The artists selected will work on the project for one month in the studio of the MOVART Gallery based in Luanda. The materials necessary for the development of the artistic project will be made available to the candidates. Artists will be supported by the curator and artist Alice Marcelino and program manager Ana Paula Lisboa. There will also be workshops, an open studio, and a final exhibition. Furthermore, one of the participating artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their work created during the residency in the MOVART Gallery in Lisbon. Accommodation and meals will be provided. Travel expenses are also covered (for artists outside Luanda).
