Zeitz MOCAA is hosting the most extensive retrospective of Tracey Rose’s work. Spanning over twenty years, the exhibition will feature a diverse body of work that includes paintings, sculptures, and installations. Rose is a bold and innovative artist whose work has challenged traditional art practices and perspectives throughout her career. The exhibition title is derived from an iconic installation by the artist, Shooting Down Babylon (The Art of War, 2016). The work reflects on varied exorcist and cleansing rituals from non-Western communities and epitomises the wide-ranging medium and concerns that are prevalent in Rose’s practice. The exhibition will explore film, sculpture, photography, performance art, printmaking, and painting, focusing on the body as an expressive device. In addition to this traditional gallery fare, participatory elements will allow visitors to engage with the works in creative ways. Rose sees the body as a powerful tool for protest and discourse, using it to show exasperation, aggravation, and disruption.
