Omar Mahfoudi (b. 1981, Morocco) lives and works in Paris, France.
Mahfoudi’s art plays with the themes of presence and absence, using emptiness to evoke mystery and existential solitude. His pieces vary from rich vegetation to desert landscapes, from unsettling shadows to peaceful figures, often set in a fading atmosphere that evokes feelings of “lost paradise”, “melancholic twilight”, or an “unfathomable night”. His deep admiration for cinema influences his art, evident in the subtle references, framing techniques, color choices, and lighting that appear in his work.
Mahfoudi’s art has been featured at international events like the 1-54 fair in London and Marrakech, Art Genève, and Art Cologne.
We would like to express our gratitude to Omar Mahfoudi for generously gifting us his time during the event, as well as AFIKARIS for helping us coordinate the interview.
